Winter Oranges

After putting away all the Christmas decorations,
the dining room was looking a little blah.
At the same time, I had a bag of tangerines that I bought by mistake.  I didn't know they had seeds, and no one was eating them.  So, I checked out Pinterest and saw all these photos of dried oranges.  I decided to give it a try.
Slice oranges (or tangerines!) into thin slices and bake at 200 degrees for 4 or 5 hours.  I turned them about every hour.  Then, I let them dry on the counter for a day.  I got some strong string and threaded them to make garlands.
I added the garlands to my windows.
I added a few pinecones on some garlads and some wooden beads to others.
I think it adds a nice natural touch to the corner cabinet.
There are a lot of possibilities for decorating with these.
I need some "nature" this time of year.
If you are looking for something colorful, but inexpensive to do, this might be it!
Don't you love Pinterest?
xoxo, Jean

  6. I love your idea. I am sitting here looking at a bowl full of shrinking tangerines right now. I think I am going to make a garland to hang on my Christmas tree that will be up for a few more days. I may just add some berries to the strand and hang it outside for the birds to enjoy.
